Keynote: Take Charge of YOUR Future...Choose Work!

Opening Remarks by Shirley Keith-Knox, Deputy Administrator, Dauphin County MH/ID Program & Susan Carbaugh, Director of Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, Cumberland-Perry MH/IDD Program

Real Pay for Real Work…It’s Not Rocket Science.  Employment provides a sense of purpose. It provides an organization to one’s life and it offers opportunities for friendships.  Most importantly, it provides the means to buy things for yourself and your family.  A job helps people take charge of their life.

Disability is a natural part of life.  In no way does “disability” diminish a person’s right to  achieve  a full and satisfying life, including economic self sufficiency.   This keynote shares success stories from individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.  Learn from real experiences how to make community connections and bridge the gap between school and work.
